Trip Overview

A Siwa Oasis tour is one of Egypt's most rewarding escapes. In the heart of the Western Desert, near the Libyan border, lies Siwa Oasis Egypt, an oasis of green date palms, olive groves, turquoise lakes and ancient ruins set among endless dunes. Unlike the bustling Nile Valley, Siwa offers genuine solitude, living Berber (Siwi) culture, and landscapes that feel untouched by time.

This 4 days Cairo and Siwa Oasis Tour Package is a great option for travelers who want to mix comfort with adventure. You will be traveling in a private air-conditioned vehicle with an experienced driver and local Siwan guide and staying in characterful eco-lodges or traditional accommodation sympathetic to the oasis environment. Highlights include the Temple of the Oracle (Oracle of Siwa) where Alexander the Great sought divine confirmation of his destiny in 331BC, the dramatic Mountain of the Dead with its rock-cut tombs, the ruined Shali Fortress rising above the old town, the buoyant Siwa salt lake, Cleopatra’s Spring and a thrilling 4x4 desert safari into the Great Sand Sea with sandboarding and sunset tea at natural hot and cold springs.

The uniqueness of this experience is the perfect mix of history, nature and cultural immersion. This complete package combines a Giza Pyramids tour and Grand Egyptian Museum visit with an unforgettable Siwa Oasis adventure, providing a perfect contrast between Egypt’s iconic ancient wonders and its most remote living oasis. The outcome is a voyage that is one-of-a-kind, restorative and intensely genuine - ideal for couples, small groups, adventure travelers and those seeking an Egypt adventure outside the standard itinerary.

Travel Advice

Packing & What to Wear: Pack light, breathable clothing covering shoulders and knees out of respect for local Siwi customs; modest dress is appreciated, especially in town and near religious sites. Bring a swimsuit for the Siwa salt lakes and natural springs, sturdy closed-toe shoes for the dunes and ancient ruins, a hat, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light jacket or fleece for cooler desert nights. A reusable water bottle, power bank, and a small first-aid kit are useful additions for your Siwa Oasis Tour experience.

Currency: Egyptian pounds (EGP) You’ll find ATMs in Siwa, but they don’t always work and they don’t always have much cash in them. It’s best to withdraw enough cash in Cairo to cover your time in Siwa, and make sure you have small denominations for tips, markets and small purchases. Larger lodges accept credit cards but few.

respect local customs: ask before taking pictures of people, dress modestly and use your right hand when eating with others. Siwa is generally safe for tourists, as long as you use licensed operators. Your best bet for desert trips is with your guide, and you should avoid heading into remote areas on your own. Drink bottled water not tap water. An Egypt tourist visa (e-visa or on arrival for many) is required by most nationalities. Do check current entry requirements before traveling. This is a good family tour for older kids who enjoy adventure and a moderate amount of activity.
