Why Visit Siwa Oasis from Alexandria?

Siwa Oasis is one of Egypt’s most rewarding off-the-beaten-path destinations. Starting from Alexandria or El Alamein makes the journey more direct for travelers already on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast.

Instead of returning to Cairo first, you can travel west through Marsa Matrouh and continue into the desert toward Siwa. The route itself becomes part of the experience, moving from coastal scenery into open desert landscapes.

Siwa is especially appealing because it offers a rare combination of:

• Ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman history.
• Amazigh culture and local traditions.
• Natural springs and salt lakes.
• Desert safari adventure.
• Quiet village atmosphere.
• Dramatic dunes of the Great Sand Sea.
• Beautiful sunset viewpoints.

For travelers who have already visited Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, or the Red Sea, Siwa Oasis feels completely different. It is peaceful, remote, earthy, and deeply memorable.

Traveler Tip

If your Egypt itinerary includes Alexandria, El Alamein, Marsa Matrouh, or the North Coast, this tour is one of the best ways to add a unique desert experience without following the standard tourist route.

Why Choose This 3 Day Siwa Oasis Tour?

Instead of spending time arranging transport, accommodation, desert safari vehicles, local guides, and entrance tickets separately, this Siwa travel package brings the essential experiences together in three efficient days.

Discover Cleopatra Spring

Cleopatra Spring is one of Siwa’s most famous natural springs. Surrounded by palm trees, local cafés, and traditional oasis scenery, it is a refreshing stop during the tour.

The spring is especially enjoyable after visiting the salt lakes or exploring in the desert heat. Travelers can relax, take photos, and enjoy the atmosphere of daily Siwan life around the water.

Expert Tip

Bring swimwear and a quick-dry towel. The spring is casual and natural, so practical clothing is better than formal resort-style swimwear.

Float in the Famous Salt Lakes

The Siwa Salt Lakes are among the most unique natural attractions in Egypt. Their vivid blue color, white salt edges, and desert setting create a surreal landscape.

Because the lakes are highly salty, visitors can float easily. This makes the experience relaxing, fun, and highly photogenic.

Important Notes

• Avoid shaving shortly before entering the salt lakes.
• Do not put your face or eyes in the water.
• Bring fresh water for rinsing after floating.
• Wear sandals or water shoes because salt edges can be sharp.
• Keep phones and cameras protected from saltwater.

Great Sand Sea Safari Experience

The Great Sand Sea is one of the signature experiences of this Siwa Desert Tour. During the safari, you ride in a 4x4 vehicle across dramatic dunes and open desert landscapes.

This part of the tour is perfect for adventure travelers, photographers, couples, families with older children, and anyone who wants to experience the Sahara beyond the usual sightseeing route.

What to Expect

• 4x4 dune driving.
• Large golden dunes.
• Sandboarding stops.
• Desert photo opportunities.
• Hot and cold natural springs.
• Bedouin tea.
• Sunset views depending on schedule.

The Great Sand Sea safari gives this tour its adventurous edge and makes it much more than a standard sightseeing itinerary.

Sandboarding Adventure

Sandboarding is one of the most enjoyable activities in Siwa Oasis. It is beginner-friendly, fun, and suitable for many travelers who want a soft adventure experience without needing prior training.

Your guide or desert driver will help choose suitable dunes based on conditions. You can try standing, sitting, or sliding depending on your confidence level.

Traveler Tip

Wear closed shoes or secure sandals for climbing the dunes. Sunglasses are also helpful because wind can blow sand into your eyes.

Sunset at Fatnas Island

Fatnas Island is one of the most beautiful sunset spots in Siwa Oasis. The view combines palm trees, lake reflections, soft desert light, and distant dunes.

For many visitors, this is one of the calmest moments of the tour. It is a perfect place for couples, photographers, families, and travelers who simply want to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere of Siwa.

Suggested Image Placement

Use a wide sunset image directly after this section to create emotional impact before the cultural sections.

Visit Shali Fortress

Shali Fortress is the old heart of Siwa. Built from traditional mud and salt materials, it reflects the architectural character of the oasis and the way local communities adapted to desert life.

Although much of the fortress is now in ruins, it remains one of the most iconic sights in Siwa. Its textures, narrow pathways, and elevated views make it ideal for photography and cultural storytelling.

Good to Know

Shali Fortress is best visited in the cooler parts of the day. Morning or late afternoon light makes the stone and mud-brick tones especially beautiful.

Discover Amazigh Heritage

Siwa Oasis has a unique Amazigh identity that sets it apart from many other destinations in Egypt. The local culture, language, food, crafts, architecture, and traditions give Siwa a distinct personality.

Visitors may notice differences in local dress, market products, building materials, and cuisine. This cultural depth is one of the reasons Siwa is so valuable for repeat visitors to Egypt.

Cultural Travel Tip

Respect local customs by dressing modestly in villages and public areas. Siwa is peaceful and welcoming, but it remains a traditional community.

Local Siwan Cuisine

Food is an important part of the Siwa Oasis experience. During the tour, travelers can enjoy traditional meals influenced by desert ingredients, local produce, dates, olives, and simple home-style cooking.

Common local products include:

• Siwan dates.
• Olives and olive oil.
• Fresh bread.
• Herbal tea.
• Seasonal vegetables.
• Traditional slow-cooked dishes.

A local dinner after the desert safari is one of the best ways to end a day in Siwa.

What Makes Siwa Oasis Unique?

Siwa Oasis is not just another stop in Egypt. It feels like a destination apart.

It is remote, quiet, culturally distinct, and naturally dramatic. Travelers come for the salt lakes and dunes, but many remember the silence, the palm groves, the mud-brick architecture, and the feeling of being far from the usual tourist trail.

Key Takeaways

• Siwa is ideal for slow travel and meaningful exploration.
• It combines nature, history, adventure, and culture.
• The landscape includes salt lakes, springs, dunes, palm groves, and ancient sites.
• The local Amazigh culture gives the oasis a distinct identity.
• A private 3 day itinerary offers enough time to experience the highlights without rushing.
